What’s this event all about?

OARS is joining CSHEMA, the Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Association to acknowledge Lab Safety Awareness Week, February 12-16, 2024. 

This week-long event aims to raise awareness, educate, and engage the scientific research community in fostering safe practices. Through expert insights, interactive activities, and informative resources, the event empowers scientists, researchers, students, and lab workers with knowledge and tools to make safety a core value.

Nominate Safety Superheroes

Do you know someone who goes above and beyond to ensure safety in the lab or shop? Whether it’s promoting safety practices, implementing innovative safety measures, or consistently caring about the well-being of their colleagues, we want to hear about these heroes. It’s time to nominate your Safety Superhero and recognize their commitment to fostering a positive culture of safety in the lab.

Open Seminar:

Safety Risk & Resiliency in the Laboratory

Time & Date: 12-1pm EST, February 14th, 2024

Location: Egan 440, Boston, MA. Lunch is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Speaker: Andrea Voehringer, Director of OARS

Who should come: This open seminar is designed for everyone! Whether you are a researcher, student, faculty member, or laboratory personnel, join us to gain valuable insights and enhance your understanding of safety risk and resiliency.

What is it about: This seminar, designed for everyone engaged in laboratory work across all disciplines, will delve into the fundamental pillars of risk, resiliency, and resilience engineering. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the delicate balance between safety and risk, explore theoretical foundational concepts, and examine the psychology of safety, with a specific focus on fostering psychological safety within the laboratory environment. Join us to expand your knowledge and inform your approach to the implementation of best practices in safety.

Chemical Inventory Superuser Workshop

Time & Date: 2:30-4:00pm EST, February 15th, 2024

Facilitator: OARS Lab Safety Team

Who should come: Principal Investigators (PI), Group Compliance Liaisons (GCL), and lab members who manage chemical inventories on SciShield. Pre-registration required. Space is limited to 30. Waitlisted individuals will be notified. Please bring your laptop.

What is it about: Join us for an interactive and practice-based event tailored for those seeking mastery in chemical inventory and reconciliation management processes. Engage in hands-on activities, troubleshoot real-world scenarios, and get your questions answered by experts. Whether you’re an experienced superuser or just starting, this workshop will bring valuable insights to enhance your proficiency in chemical inventory management.
