Bloodborne Pathogens Program 

Overview

The Biosafety Program provides essential support services for research involving human, non-human primate, and other materials that fall under the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. These materials may contain potentially infectious agents such as HIV, HBV, HCV, or others. 

Bloodborne pathogen materials include, but are not limited to: 

    • Human and non-human primate blood 
    • Cells and tissues
    • Body fluids and secretions that may be infectious

Training Requirements

The OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens training is required for workers assigned by job activity in SciShield. Note: This job activity may require additional trainings.

BBP For Clinicians

Employees working in clinical settings with potential occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens must complete BBP training .

This applies to staff in:

  • Bouve College of Health Sciences 
  • Marino Recreation Center

 

 

BBP For Laboratorians

Employees working in clinical settings with potential occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens must complete BBP training. This applies to PI’s and lab members.
