What’s this event all about?
OARS is joining CSHEMA, the Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Association to acknowledge Lab Safety Awareness Week, February 10-14, 2025.
This week-long event aims to raise awareness, educate, and engage the scientific research community in fostering safe practices. Through fume hood laser show, community engagement activities, and informative resources, the event empowers scientists, researchers, students, and lab workers with knowledge and tools to make safety a core value.

How can I participate this week?
Attend the Fume Hood Laser Show
Come join us as we shine laser lights on the mysteries of the fume hood!
Fume hoods are vital pieces of laboratory equipment that protect researchers from dangerous airborne chemical hazards. But since these hazards are invisible, how can you be sure your fume hood is functioning and containing them properly?
That’s where this demo comes in! With the help of a haze generator and blue, green, and red lasers, we’ll use the tri-color fume hood visualizer testing method to make the imperceptible movements of air inside the fume hood visible. Watch containment in action and learn best practices to maximize your safety from hidden threats—don’t miss out!

Fume Hood Laser Show
Date: Monday, February 10, 2025
Time: We host 6 30-min sessions throughout the day (10-10:30AM, 10:30-11AM, 11-11:30AM, 11:30AM-12PM, 1-1:30PM, 1:30-2PM).
Location: EXP 360, 815 Columbus Ave, Boston, MA
Who should come: Anyone who works with fume hoods or just wants to see a cool laser show! Space is limited to 15 per session.
