Empowering Academic Researchers to Strengthen Safety Culture and Risk Management

OARS is helping spread the word about the upcoming ACS (American Chemical Society) Division of Chemical Health and Safety Virtual Workshop, Empowering Academic Researchers to Strengthen Safety Culture and Risk Management in the Research Lab.

This interactive workshop offers frontline researchers in academic settings the opportunity to learn more about safety culture and develop the skills to become leaders in laboratory safety. Participants will explore the RAMP paradigm—Recognize hazards, Assess risks, Minimize risks, and Prepare for emergencies—through case studies and discussion sessions focused on applying each step.

By the end of the session, attendees will have practiced how to systematically conduct a risk assessment of existing protocols and past incidents.

👩‍🔬 Who Should Attend?

Graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and undergraduates in STEM departments are encouraged to attend. Faculty and safety professionals supporting the development of Laboratory Safety Teams (LSTs) are also welcome. Whether your department is just starting an LST or already has one, this workshop offers an opportunity to build momentum and foster connections across institutions.
